Zephyr is a five year old Grulla gelding, Quarter horse bred. He stands about 15.2 hands and weighs between xxxx to xxxx pounds. He has always been a pasture mate to an older Appaloosa gelding, who passed away last winter. His owner reports that he seems to be quite lonely and definitely showing signs that he is missing his herd. Zephyr had a very short training session in the spring of xxxx when a problem was discovered. Prior to this, only his owner had worked with him and he allowed her to back him several times. It is believed the problem is in the front shoulder as his owner suspected that the he may have become injured when her mare kicked him. It would be unadvised and dangerous at the this point to attempt to ride him until a veterinarian has been consulted. In the past Zephyr has unseated his rider demonstrating his discomfort. When moving on the straight away he seems quite comfortable however in a a bend he will be short strided and shows that he is uncomfortable. He has not had the veterinarian attend to this problem so it is hard to say what exactly is the cause or whether or not it is treatable. His owner does not have the finances to investigate this problem thoroughly and in good conscious could not sell him or give him away in this condition.
Zephyr's full brother was believed to be HYPP positive so as precaution Zephyr's owner has cared for him as though he may have this genetic disorder. He has never shown any signs or symptoms of HYPP and the precautions to follow are relatively easy to continue.
On the positive side, Zephyr is very respectful of electric fencing and is easy to pasture, he is an easy keeper getting only a small amount of grain daily. He is also his good for the farrier and would make a great pasture mate for another horse.
Zephyr is not housed at our barn and continues to live with his owner, however if you are interested in him or want to know more about him please contact us and your information will be forwarded to his owner.
Zephyr is not for sale. He is looking for a great home willing to take care of his special needs!
